UC Application Filing Period
The filing period for the UC application is November 1-30. The preferred application method is via the Internet.
The UC GPA
Your UC GPA is not the same as your Milken GPA for four reasons:
(1) Only your tenth and eleventh grade grades are calculated in the UC GPA, while your Milken GPA also includes your ninth grade grades.
(2) The UC GPA does not incorporate pluses and minuses, only whole letter grades.
(3) Only those academic courses that are UC approved are calculated into the UC GPA, while all of your academic classes are calculated into your Milken GPA.
(4) UC allows you to weigh only certain honors courses, while Milken weighs all honors courses.
(A list of UC-approved courses and courses that receive UC honors credit can be obtained through the following link: https://doorways.ucop.edu/list/ )
Test Scores
The UC system requires the submission of results of either the SAT Reasoning Test (formerly SAT I) or the ACT with Writing, and two SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests) in two distinct academic disciplines. The UC will accept test scores as late as December of your senior year, and you do not need to rush December scores. You must have an official copy of your score report sent to each UC campus to which you are applying and the UC must receive your score report by early January. You are responsible for contacting the appropriate testing agency in order to have your standardized test scores submitted to each UC campus.
UC Eligibility
UC Eligibility is calculated based on a formula determined by the UC Regents. The formula incorporates your UC GPA and a combination of your SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Tests. (Please note: your SAT Reasoning Test composite is the score from your best sitting, NOT your best Critical Reading, Math and Writing from two or more different tests.) You may use an ACT with Writing score in place of an SAT Reasoning Test score for eligibility purposes. If you are UC eligible, you are guaranteed admission to at least one UC campus. UC recommends applying broadly to at least four campuses to improve your chances for admission. Applying to numerous campuses will not hurt your chances for admission to any one campus, and your application will be evaluated independently by each campus to which you apply. Please note that one application allows you to apply to multiple UC campuses. The following link will provide detailed information on eligibility, admission requirements, and application procedures: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergraduate.html
The UC Personal Statement
The UC requires all applicants to respond to two essay prompts using a total of no more than 1000 words. We recommend that you begin working on your personal statement over the summer and review it with teachers and college counselors in the fall to perfect it before submission. Please go to the following link to access the UC application and personal statement: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply_to_uc.html
Recommendations and Transcripts
The UC does not require teacher recommendations or secondary school reports and, in fact, will not accept them. You do NOT need to send your transcript with your UC application. It will be sent during the final stages of the admission process.
Visiting UC Campuses
Please contact each of the UC campuses for information on arranging a visit.
