Milken's Academic Life
A Philosophy of Community and Academic Standards
At Milken we recognize that each individual has a responsibility for upholding the standards, mission and values of the community. We recognize that being a part of a community of learners bears a responsibility to oneself and toward others.
Attending and participating in the life of Milken Community High School is a privilege which carries with it sacred responsibilities. This privilege demands high standards of conduct.. It also demands the highest standards of behavior off campus and at school events. We insist that every member of the Milken Community treat every person B’tzelem Elohim (in the image of God) and respect the physical environment.
At Milken we believe that there is not one path to success, but a path for everyone based on individual needs. We believe in empowering students with choices so they can learn through their experiences. There are many adults at Milken who support students throughout their school career. Classroom teachers, advisors, student support services, and other administrators seek to provide every student at Milken with multiple opportunities to become connected to the school community in both times of need and in times of celebration. This is the kavanah we share.
We acknowledge that students at Milken are adolescents - living in both the world of adults and the world of children at the same time. While students come to Milken with wisdom and some understanding of themselves and the world, we understand that they still have much to learn and that we can all learn from mistakes. We attempt to work with all students as they learn how to successfully navigate what can sometimes be a complex and challenging world.
