Daily Life

Daily life at Milken is framed by academic classes, by observation of Judaism in many forms, by the celebration of Israel, by participation in the community of the school, and by the recognition of student and faculty work.

The primary function of the school is teaching, and students have an opportunity to take ten academic classes over a two day rotation of days. Within that framework, students take classes in the both the traditional academic areas and Judaic Studies and Hebrew. We pride ourselves on the strength of our dual curriculum and believe that students are enriched by the combination of these academic programs.

Advisory is a foundational program of the school and every student has an advisor who they see regularly. In the Middle School, advisory is scheduled as a class, and in the Upper School, time is set aside for advisory. Advisors work with students on a range of school life issues such as academic advising. Advisors function as an advocate for the child and are the primary contact between school and home.

Just as Advisory is a core program of the school, so is Minyan and prayer. Interested students have an opportunity for daily prayer and all students engage in Minyan at least once a week. We hope that frequent and sustained interaction with Judaism provides a way for students to define and refine their beliefs.

Milken offers several opportunities for class and school-wide interaction through class meetings, town meetings, and the Kehillah program. Additionally, the school sponsors several experiential education programs for all students.
