Living Responsibly at Milken
Any school is an institution and needs to explain the ways it seeks to live together as a community. All the members of the community at Milken attempt to live together in responsible ways. Students learn to live responsibly by understanding the need for acceptable behavior and the consequences for poor choices. Because attending Milken is a privilege, our standards for good community citizenship are high and are demanding.
Keeping in mind that the school is a Jewish school and that each person is made in the image of God, the disciplinary framework at Milken focuses on the growth and development of the child and not on mere consequence alone. The concept of a plan of T'Shuvah or redemption is fundamental to our concept of discipline. The assistant principal and the Rabbi of the class are often in conversation when a disciplinary action is needed.
